KVS NVS Selection Process & Exam Pattern 2026 – Tier-1, Tier-2, Interview & Skill Test

The KVS NVS Selection Process 2026 for teaching and non-teaching posts is conducted through a multi-tier examination system. The recruitment is carried out by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) under Notification No. 01/2025.

The selection process includes Tier-1 (Preliminary), Tier-2 (Main Examination), followed by Interview or Skill Test, depending on the post.

KVS–NVS Selection Process & Exam Pattern

A. KVS NVS Posts with Tier-1 + Tier-2 + Interview

For the following posts, the selection process consists of two written examinations followed by an Interview.

Merit Preparation

  • Tier-2 Written Exam: 85% weightage

  • Interview: 15% weightage

  • Interview carries 100 marks

For these posts, selection is based on Tier-2 marks, subject to qualifying the Skill Test.
There is no interview.

D. Tier-1 Exam Pattern (For All Posts Except NVS MTS)

Tier-1 is a Preliminary (Qualifying) Examination, conducted in OMR (Objective) mode.
Duration: 2 Hours | Total Marks: 300

F. Medium of Examination (Tier-1)

  • Parts I to IV are bilingual (English + one selected Indian language)

  • English Language section is English only

  • Indian Language section is only in the language opted

  • Supported languages include Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Urdu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi, Odia

  • Language option once selected cannot be changed


G. Educational Level Expected (Tier-1)

  • Post-Graduation Level: Assistant Commissioner, Principal, Vice-Principal, PGT

  • Graduation Level: TGT, AO, FO, AE, ASO, Junior Translator, Stenographers, SSA

  • Senior Secondary Level: PRT, JSA, Lab Attendant

  • Secondary Level: Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS)


H. Tier-1 Shortlisting & Marking Scheme

  • Tier-1 is only for shortlisting

  • Shortlisting ratio: 1:10 (post-wise & category-wise)

  • Each question carries 3 marks

  • Negative marking: 1 mark deducted for each wrong answer

  • No re-evaluation allowed


I. Tier-2 Exam Pattern (For All Posts)

Tier-2 is a Subject Knowledge Examination, conducted in bilingual mode (Hindi & English)
(Duration: 2½ Hours)

  • Negative marking (Objective): 0.25 marks

J. Interview & Skill Test Shortlisting Ratio

  • Interview: 1:3 ratio from Tier-2

  • Skill Test: 1:5 ratio from Tier-2

  • Candidates scoring equal to cutoff marks are also shortlisted


K. Skill Test Details (Post-Wise)

Junior Secretariat Assistant (KVS)

  • Typing Test:

    • English: 35 wpm | Hindi: 30 wpm

  • Computer Proficiency Test (CPT):

    • MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Internet

    • 100 marks, minimum 40% required

Junior Secretariat Assistant (NVS)

  • Typing Test:

    • English: 30 wpm | Hindi: 25 wpm

Stenographer Grade-I & II

  • Shorthand:

    • Dictation: 10 minutes @ 80 wpm

    • Transcription: 50 min (English) / 65 min (Hindi)

  • Typing Test:

    • English: 40 wpm | Hindi: 35 wpm

  • Computer Proficiency Test:

    • 100 marks, minimum 40% required
